Congestion chokes Mzimba Sec. School
Authorities at Mzimba Secondary School in Mzimba District have complained that the learning institution is experiencing congestion due to inadequate school blocks and poor state of other structures.
The school’s Parent and Teachers Association chairperson Pastor Thomson Majawa in an interview on Saturday said the institution was designed to accommodate 250 students, but currently has over 700.
He said this has affected accommodation for learners at the school.

Said Majawa: “Mzimba Secondary School is one of the oldest schools in the country and since its establishment, no major maintenance has taken place.
“This means the majority of structures are old and dilapidated. This has resulted in the school finding it hard to accommodate over 700 students currently in admission because we are lacking extra classes, hostels, beds and mattress.”
He has since appealed to well-wishers and the school’s former students to help it with resources to rehabilitate structures and furniture.
“We cannot manage to carry out rehabilitation works alone because over 80 percent of revenue we generate goes to feeding children at the school,” said Majawa.
Meanwhile, Mzimba Heritage Association (Mziha) general secretary Kingsley Jere has said they are willing to partner the school in mobilising resources for rehabilitation and construction of new structures.
“We are ready to partner the school and champion fundraising activities to source funds to help in rehabilitating the structures and erect new ones since this is the district’s main school,” he said.
Mzimba Secondary School was built in 1965 and has produced various individuals working in different sectors in the country and abroad.
